About electionwatch.et

An independent open-data portal for Ethiopia’s 7th General Election. Public material, structured into citable datasets, free for anyone to use.

Accessible

Election data sits locked in scattered PDFs and broadcasts. We turn it into searchable datasets, maps, and charts that anyone can use, for free.

Verifiable

Every record links back to its primary source, so you can always check the original rather than take our word for it.

Open & independent

The site is open source and not affiliated with any government body or political party. The code and structured data are public.

What is electionwatch.et?

electionwatch.et takes the public record of Ethiopia’s 7th General Election and turns it into structured, cross-linked datasets that are easy to explore.

The National Election Board publishes candidate lists and polling-station registries as long PDFs; debates air as hours-long broadcasts. Useful, but hard to search, compare, or cite. We extract that material, normalize it, and connect it, so you can move from a polling station to the candidates on its ballot, from a party to every seat it contests, or from a debate claim to the second it was spoken.

How it works

1

Collect

We gather publicly released material: NEBE candidate lists and polling-station PDFs, official debate broadcasts, and party filings.

2

Structure

Each source is parsed into normalized JSON, with Amharic and English names cleaned and cross-linked across datasets.

3

Publish

The data is rendered into a fast static site with interactive maps, charts, and searchable tables. No tracking, no server.

Datasets & sources

4 datasets are live. Each is built from public material:

Transcribed from the official ETV/NEBE and Fana Medrek debate broadcasts on YouTube; every claim links to its video timestamp.

View the dataset

Compiled from the debate analyses; each position links to the moment it was stated.
